Hard edged, raw, gritty, all accurate descriptions of this classic Charles Bronson movie. It is based on a true story of a man hunt in the wilderness of the Canadian Rockies in 1931. Bronson's character intervened to save a dog that was being viciously mauled by another in a staged gogfight. Bronson took the near dead dog and the owners objected. After paying $200, the former owners were still unhappy and went after Bronson. In the ensuing firefight one of the men was killed. Told a different story that made Bronson the aggressor, the Canadian Mountie Sgt.in charge, played by Lee Marvin, goes after Bronson to bring him in. This sets up the perfect match between two similar characters in the rugged, snowy, wild and Wide open vistas of the Canadian North. The pursuit is relentless, and the principles are both so rugged and believable, that the grit of this action makes the suspense even better. This is the epitome of the "men on foot" chase.Read full review
This movie is one of my all time favorites. I love Charles Bronson as well as Lee Marvin. The story content is something we can all relate to: cruelty to animals and the right of all of us to stand up to people who think they can use the law for their own purposes. The fact that it is filmed with a back-drop of breath-taking beauty is a definite bonus. This is an exciting addition to my collection. The brutality was graphic but necessary to show just how ignorant people can be when greed and blind self-importance take over. All in all, a great movie experience.
This was a very great adventure made about a man on the run from the law. But he was really innocent. Great movie and story. They don't make them like this anymore. GREAT movie , actors and storyline! IF you never saw it, GET IT! You won't be sorry! It's action , suspense , mystery from the word GO!

Excellent movie based on a true story of a manhunt that took place in the Canadian Rockies in the 1930's. The teaming up of two actors like Lee Marvin and Charles Bronson in such a rugged backdrop only added to the inherent ruggedness of these two actors. Very well cast with familiar supporting character actors, it speaks to a time of movie making when there was still a message of morale justice versus the law. An aging Sgt.( Lee Marvin )in the Canadian Mounties is pressed into action hunting down a accused killer ( Charles Bronson ) by a angry bunch of men from a small frontier town after Bronson rescues one of the men's dogs from a organized dogfight. The dog near death, is taken against the owner's will but given $200.00 to compensate for the dog. A bunch of the men including the owner, later go after Bronson, resulting in the rightful, self-defense killing of one of the men. The men go to town with a different story and convince the Sgt. ( Lee Marvin ) of the different story. But the Sgt. has his doubts. The pursuit begins. Also staring Angie Dickinsen. I would give this movie a 4 out of 5 stars. It is not much longer than 90 minutes.Read full review
Charles Bronson and Lee Marvin do a great job of portraying characters from the Yukon wilderness of the 1930's. Lee Marvin as a Mountie actually does his job with a healthy amount of discretion. The message of the movie is not that the law prevails, but that justice prevails. The mountain wilderness scenery is incredible.
