A compilation of two early Van Ronk albums, this CD is quintessential. If you have only one or two of Dave's albums, this should be included. Recorded in 1962, Dave's performance is tight and passionate, his powerful and subtle guitar playing (strongly influenced by Rev. Gary Davis) carefully arranged and absolutely right for the song. His accompaniment can sound deceptively simple. . . 'til you try to replicate it. Dave was smart, wry, vigorous, and opinionated. His autobiography "The Mayor of MacDougal Street", written with friend and fan Elijah Wald, is a snappy, pithy story of his life as a folksinger and denizen of Greenwich Village during what he calls the "folk scare" of the early 60s. If you don't know Dave Van Ronk, you've got a revelation ahead of you. . . he was a national treasure.Read full review
the disc itself just fine, and the insert/print. replacing broken case a minor distraction

Great CD. They should offer other van Ronk releases as CDs. I would buy others.
