Terrific third album from The Darling Buds, moving them even further away from their jingly-jangly guitar roots. The lyrics are subtler with a sense of hidden misery through the joy, while the music feels complete with never a note out of place. This is pop music for grown-ups. Where The Darling Buds began as fun, they hit their peak here with an album of richness and depth. But they can still belt out a good three-and-a-half minute catchy number if they need to - in this case it's "Sure Thing" and the mesmeric guitars of "Angels Fallen". Recommended.
This is a great album, a real lost classic. All tracks strong, no filler. And I heard they have reformed for gigs in London and New York this year.
