Dark City is the best film of Alex Proyas. He uses the Gothic and claustrophobic themes commonly and dark colors prevail during the film like "The Crow" .The story doesn't follow a certain order of rule, instead there is some mind games and puzzles in the film, that causes watchers to be active in each minute and motivate to the movie.. The topic is about a man who loses his past and first finds himself in a bath tub, doesn^t know about himself and his life, but he has one ability that no one has, he can be alive when the evil forces stops the time and reshapes the world according to their own demand. The story is so fantastic and Proyas' nightmare world come true in that movie. I can basically say that it's one of the best science fiction movies ever made, it opens doors to different dimensions and force human brains' capability....Read full review
This movie is great. Plain and simple. The directors cut adds a few little things here and there but nothing very noticeably different. The special features are pretty good as well. Over an hour of bonus features, in the form of 3 documentaries, that are very in depth, if they get a little boring at times. There is also an audio commentary that is very informative as well. Overall, I am thoroughly pleased with the DVD. The bonus features give me a LOT of information, and aren't 5 minutes long , little pieces of crap that are just thrown together. Overall: 4 out of 5
After all these years, I can't really think of any other movie that had so much impact on me. The Matrix was very deep, and so was Ridley Scott's Bladerunner. To think that the Director and all the Cast had made such a fantastic film is much akin to a miracle in Hollywood. Too bad this movie was such a sleeper. If it hadn't have been, maybe Rufus Sewell and Jennifer Connelly would have been 10 times bigger stars than they already are. Alex Proyas, the director of this movie and The Crow, is a true genius. Without giving away the story, I'd have to say that the R rating was certainly necessary to carry the story. The Director's Cut Adds a bit of newness to the film, but the bits and pieces added are fairly noticeable. Don't miss out on seeing this movie. John Murdoch awakens alone in a strange hotel to find that he has lost his memory and is wanted for a series of brutal and bizarre murders. While trying to piece together his past, he stumbles upon a fiendish underworld controlled by a group of beings known as The Strangers who possess the ability to put people to sleep and alter the city and its inhabitants. Now Murdoch must find a way to stop them before they take control of his mind and destroy him. An absolutely brilliant and nightmarish movie. "Dark City" is an enriching and surreal experience, full of beautiful images and powerful symbolism. A fantastic science-fiction masterpiece.
Great film! One of my faves. The acting is superb, love the costumes and the set designs. Nice!!
