I've had one simular to it and it worked great for small fish. I found them really good for brook trout. I never really caught anything over say 5lbs. with it but the Daiwa version looks stronger and holds more line so expect it to work just fine. Besides that they are easier to use in some cases. My wife has problems with a spinning reel so this is the best of both worlds for her.

After the second use of the 120xd model, the handle became loose. I tightened the aluminum screw holding the handle on and it snapped off . Had to drill the broken screw piece out, tap and install a steel screw to hold the handle on. I love the ease of use of this type of reel, easy to use good looking but the some parts could be upgraded.

Great reels. Use for Shellcracker fishing in lily pads and grass/wood mats. Have 4-6-8 foot rods with smaller reels, these fit on 10 and 12 foot rods. All reels have 6 pound Slime line. Wedge boat into mat and fish in widening circles, dropping and jigging bait or Blakemore’s Spinners in holes. Can effectively fish a 30 foot circle without moving boat!

I bought this reel to use on bass. I have a zebco . underspin which I use for trout and I like it. No backlash or problems. When I saw this reel offered by Diawa, I decided to buy it. It holds 12# line and that is what I wanted for bass fishing. The reel is very well made and casts excellent. Retrieve is good and the speed is adequate, about 4;1 I have it on a bass pro shops 6 ft. 2 pc. Brawler Rod rated for 8-17# This a good setup for anything, bait/plug/jig wise. I'm going to buy an additional one, in order to use 2 different baits. Very good reel. Priced right too.

Just like many I started fishing with noodles and closed faced reels. As I got more into the fishing sport I upped to baitcasters and spinning reels. It’s fun to go back to basics and use what started it all for me. Totally recommend this Diawa underspin 120. Love how the drag knob is at the back base of the reel, much easier to adjust when fighting a fish. Can’t wait to break it in!!
