Really great cookbook for those interested in authentic Latin American and Puerto Rican cuisine. I am half Puerto Rican but never really learned how to cook the dishes of my culture even though I am condsidered a very good cook when it comes to Italian, Greek and American food. I guess it's because my mom and Grandma did not use measurements and I couldn't get the hang of "eyeballing" and "estimating" amounts. I am a self taught cook who started with Joy of Cooking and took off from there. I need exact measurements and clear instructions which my Puerto Rican relatives didn't use and yet somehow they make the very best dishes of the culture. I tried it their way and my yellow rice and beans always came out mushy or hard and I couldnt fix it so I gave up. After watching Daisy on television I was thrilled as she made the dishes I thought were to hard for me to master. It is truly an excellent resource and she gives explanations and there are many notes throughout the book. There are also some nice pictures. I've been using the book now and have aced the dishes that used to intimidate me. I highly reccomend it.Read full review
I love that the recipes are so simple which is why I decided to purchase the book. It reminds me of my childhood. Some of the recipes I had never heard about and I am anxious to try. The trick for the banana leaf I had seen used in Puerto Rico but I had never tried it. I finally did, and wow, what a difference. I recommend this book highly. I have seen other books on puerto-rican cooking that just do not compare. This book seems fresh and exciting. The photographs help tremendously. After seeing the show, and now having the cookbook with the recipes provided there make it seem like I have Daisy in my own kitchen. I do not have any complaints about this book.
I wanted this book for a very long time. I am a avid cook and I do have a extensive repertoir of recipes and cookbooks.I also have followed her for years on her T.V. show of the same name. I had not seen the interior of this book --so it was all new to me when I received it. It was all that I expected ! A joyful , not overly complicated book --filled with LOVE of life , foods and a celebration of friends and relatives that made it all possible. I love the style of it all !! I have slowed greatly in my purchase of cooking books. I have many and only purchase ones that are very , very special. I would include this in the list of SPECIAL. Do you want a little more information or recipes of Latin Style of cooking ?? Or more on Puerto Rican Foods ??...or Spanish Foods in a generl way ? Or Carribean specialtys.? Then check this book out !! I think you'll enjoy it as much as I.Read full review

I've been watching her show on the Create channel, and the Cooking Channel features her FoodTV show--MAN! She makes stuff look so friggin' good! I'd done a test-drive of the book thru interlibrary loan, and knew I'd have to have this one. I've found myself at our local international grocery buying things I'd never bought that are now regular pantry staples. It'll be a go-to item from now on!
