It's 'rockabilly' for everyone; a standard flair with Buck Owens & the beginning of a love affair with k.d. lang, now a proven star! SIN CITY never sounded so good with my favorite kind of harmonizing. Dwight and k.d. give me the cold chill bumps all through my body! Every song has been everywhere ever since 1989, on radio, TV, and in movies, especially with Arnold the Terminator, going into the bar with a 'bare' attitude, "I want your clothes, your boots, and your motorcycle!" Who could say NO?? A guitar lover's delight pickin' more rock than billy; heavy on the accordian on THE STREETS OF BAKERSFIELD with Buck Owens; pulling in the old timers as well as loving that fiddlin' and steel guitar through out with the old western flavor. I wanted this CD since losing it some time ago. My favorite track is SIN CITY with k.d. lang. Would have loved to hear more from these two. 5 stars for Dwight Yoakam's "Just Lookin' For A Hit".Read full review
I first stumbled onto this recording during a rest stop at the famous Anderson's Pea Soup restaurant. While searching the bargain stacks I came across this recording as a cassette tape. I was vaguely familiar with "Guitars, Cadillacs, and Hillbilly Music", "Little Sister", and "Little Ways", but I bought the tape on the strength of "I Sang Dixie". What I found when I got back to the car and popped the cassette into the player was as good a collection of updated country songs as on any record. From the opening chords of "Long White Cadillac", I realized I was listening to real country, not the present "pop" country. After the first time through, I had to go back to the beginning and play the songs through again, this time pumping up the volume on "Long White Cadillac" to the point the rear view mirror was shaking! His voice is as beautifully country as it is distinctive. Especially appreciated were his duets with k. d. lang and Buck Owens. I played the tape so much I wore it out and had to find it on cd so I can play it some more! A great buy!Read full review
