Tom Atkins, Stacey Nelkin and Dan O'Herlihy star in this 1982 horror film. A doctor and a woman discover an evil toymaker's plot of selling deadly masks. Some people don't understand this was supposed to be the first of different Halloween tales that was John Carpenter's idea at the time. I agree it should've been called, "Season of the Witch" and maybe it was ahead of it's time. Dan was terrific as Conal Cochran and Tom is great as usual. I like this film, it has a real Halloween feel to it and I like the music too. This dvd has good picture and sound, but no extras. I highly recommend this great underrated 80's horror film.
Looking for another Michael Myers slasher flick? Skip this movie. Looking for a pretty cool 80’s horror movie with a unique story? Check this one out! Most viewers’ complaint with this movie is that there is no Michael Myers; the only glimpse of him is on TVs in the backgrounds during commercials. I can’t blame people who think that, I hated this movie the first time I saw it as well. However, after I learned why it’s so different my attitude changed and I gave this one another shot. Boy I’m glad I did! The movie centers on a man named Dr. Challis, played by one of my favorite 80’s actors Tom Atkins of Escape from New York, The Fog (1979) and Night of the Creeps. A patient dies in his hospital and as he investigates he uncovers a horrific plot by the owner of Silver Shamrock Novelties – Conal Cochran, played most excellently by Dan O’Hearly. This guy is CREEPY! Easily the best 80’s horror old bad guy since the Tall Man of Phantasm fame. It’s a race against time to stop the madness before it’s too late! Great music score (done by John Carpenter), excellent story, above average acting and decent special effects. Even if I wasn’t a huge fan of John Carpenter and Halloween (both the movies and holiday) I would say this is a great movie, DEFINATLEY WORTH CHECKING OUT. As far as why the movie is so different from all the others, most die hard Halloween or John Carpenter fans will know, but in case you don’t, here’s the (somewhat) short version. John Carpenter and Debra Hill created Halloween and made it using money invested from a man named Moustapha Akkad. With the success of the first movie Carpenter was approached to make a sequel. Since his vision of the first movies ending was Myers being shot of the balcony then disappearing into the night, he was reluctant to agree. He finally gave in, agreeing to write and score the music for the second. The second was directed by Rick Rosenthal who I believe was an assistant director for the first maybe? Since Carpenter wrote this one, he killed Myers in the end in the hospital explosion. Myers fans wanted more and when Carpenter was approached to make a third he agreed but only if it had nothing to do with Myers, after all Myers was dead. And thus the third and for most people utterly confusing third movie Season of the Witch. Most fans had no idea about the production side of this and so number three got horrible reviews. Fans wanted Michael back, Carpenter wanted out, so the rights to the movies were sold to Moustapha Akkad and he took over since! That’s also why 4 through 8 are so different than the first three. I love all of them; overall Halloween is one of the best long time running Horror movie series. The original is my favorite movie of all time, hands down. Whew! Thanks for taking the time to read this if you have, I hope it is helpful and maybe clears up some confusion! This is my first review, if you liked it please keep an eye out for more I am a huge movie fan (Horror, Sci-Fi, Action, Anime and some comedy) and will be writing some more reviews soon, I promise every one won’t be as long. :0Read full review
This is the one 'Halloween' movie that doesn't get shown on television channels any more; it's great to be able to watch it uncut, without commercials, and with subtitles! Sure, it's dated but that's part of the charm; the story is great and so is Dan O'Herlihy.

Definite grade B movie with poor acting. The worst of the Halloween series, and I've seen them all!
