I've had a wired dog fence in the past and this unit seems superior. Our young Dutch Shepherd -- an agressive but smart dog -- responds well to the system. Two jolts and she stays clear of the flags; free to roam the yard. I would suggest the addition of a lightning suppressor -- cheap insurance. The 18 gauge wire is much stronger than what other units supply; I would suggest they use a solid core wire rather than stranded. Although stranded wire is more easily bent, you don't want to make sharp turns with a dog fence. Lastly, find a place that rents an EZ-trench which digs the trench, installs the wire (the spool is mounted on the machine) and covers up the trench (if the soil is dry). I put in 2000 feet of wire in 4 hours. There are trenchers out there that are heavy hard-to-use pigs. Don't rent it if you can't lift it.Read full review
