Not one of my favorite Marvel characters. In fact, I knew very little about the origin of Dr. Strange until I saw this movie. Overall, I would consider this to be a very good introduction to the character. Viewers will discover that Stephen Strange was far from a 'good' person and ever further from hero material until he learned some valuable life-lessons about 'giving back'. Another thing I found interesting is that while Strange was being schooled to become the Sorceror Supreme, he also trained extensively in the use of weapons and is no slouch when it comes to swordplay or fighting with a staff. The story covers Strange's origin and provides the viewer with an enjoyable introduction to the world of the mystics and the ever-present threat to the universe - Dormmamu. Good, not great, but worth owning if you are a Marvel fan and enjoy these animated movies. Certainly no better or worse than either of the early Avengers animated features.Read full review
This is the 4th(?) installment of marvel animated movies, and it follows the previous three in having a different feel and story from the others. It sticks pretty close to the original comic story, and is a fun albeit slow paced story. The animation is spectacular, while the writing is pretty straight-laced. Beware, if youre getting this for a child, they do drop a couple of "h" bombs in there, along with character deaths! The special features are great, in telling how the artistry was so different from main-stream comics those days. They also have a good preview of the 5th film they will be releasing shortly, but Im not a spoiler, so....The biggest problem I have with this dvd, and all the animated marvel movies, is that theyve modernized them. I would have liked to have seen them in the 50s and 60s when most of them were originally created. But theyve done that with all the CGI movies as well, such as X-men and Spiderman, so its not to big of a disappointment. All in all, a decent flick, not the best of the 4, but worth seeing.Read full review
First, I would give this a 4.5 rating if that were a choice. This is a Very Good and well made cartoon movie with an pretty good story. It even has a a few morals that are easy to recognize. The plot makes sense, is relatively easy to understand (thinking of kids), and is somewhat thought provoking. The animation is excellent. The characters are appropriately drawn for the comic book and animated with strong and entertaining action sequences. Some of the story concepts will probably go over the head of some young children, but considering the quality of the animation, they will probably still enjoy it a lot. Warning to Parents: There are a few violent scenes that may be disturbing to young children. For example, there is one scene where a good guy (not a main character) is attacked by hundreds of flying bat-like sharp toothed carnivorous creatures who apparantly devour him (no gory details) and then leave behind his bare skeleton. Other people die in the movie, but that's the only scene that seemed a little graphic. My main complaints were the lack of strong annunciation on the part of certain voice-over actors in the beginning. It is difficult to hear an understand exactly what they say a few times, and what they say is important to the story. I was a marvel fan when I was a kid, but I didn't read the Dr. Strange comic books. However, I was somewhat familiar with the character and I think most fans will enjoy this new animated movie from Marvel.Read full review
The movie is a origin story of Dr. Strange, a marvel character who uses magic as his weapon. Some marvel movies are hits and misses. A miss would be the Iron Man animated movie that has all the battles in CGI, which make the action feel like your watching someone play with action figures. Dr. Strange on the other hand is a decent movie. The plot is that an ancient evil is trying to reenter this world and a team of mystics are focused on stopping it from happening. Strange become a causalty of this struggle. His hands are damaged and he no longer has the ability to be a surgeon. In his quest for a fix of his hands. He under goes training from the Ancient One. Soon, Strange is part of the team, which is slowly losing the battle. The Ending is the hit or miss part of the movie. I will let you decide. I bought the movie because the price was under $5. According to me, the price was right.Read full review
The style of animation is fluid, smooth and very well done. What I didn't like is the fact that according to Comic Collector Live (CCL) there is supposed to be an insert in the case of a comic book cover. Not only could I not find it, but I also could not find any info on how to obtain it. I made this purchase because I collect Marvel Comics and there animated features. Dr. Strange just happens to be my favorite character.
