A little tricky to hook up. It does not come with a wiring diagram. Hence the four stars, vs 5. I was replacing one that failed, and the wire colors are different, so I had to try to match them up, and I got it right. yay. this is what worked for me. Black- the one with the ring terminal, to the shaft, in the base. Brown- to the neutral lamp wire, and neutral plug wire. White - to the lamp hot wire. red - to the hot plug wire.

The item did not come with instructions. Others who bought it warned about that, but I'm pretty handy. There's a difficult to understand schematic on the piece itself. The wire colors do not match what was on the lamp and are of a smaller gauge than what is on the lamp. I tried every combination of hooking the wires up to the lamp. None worked. Tripped the circuit breaker on every combination. I'd be really ticked if I'd spent more money on it. As it is, I'm not going to waste an envelope to even return it.

I had bought a touch controlled lamp years ago for the wife and at some point in the last several years the switch had stopped working. Which meant we had to unplug it to turn it off. Not very convenient when the plug is behind a night stand. So it went unused until one of the children requested that they could use it. After seeing them yank on the cord and other less than desierable things I decided that I should just fix it. This switch works perfectly. The colors in wiring are a little different but there is a wiring diagram molded into the housing of the switch in the one I recieved. While I do have a degree in Engineering I don't feel it was necessary to hook wires together and use the provided wire nuts to connect. I would recommend that if your lamp is like mine you cut and strip the wires from the old witch as the wire nuts provided are smaller than crimped in connecter which joins the 4 wires from the light bulbs to my old switch for those leads. The old switch was also attached to the base plate by 2 sided sticky foam tape, but as we are not moving it around too much I didn't feel it was necessary to replace.Read full review

Wires do not follow standard electrical color code. Blew first unit because of. Also, 3 way switch, first level too low for a light

Needed to get our world globe lamp in working order, and this Control Sensor Dimmer Box worked splendidly. Being made in China, which is not a problem with quality, it does have a slightly different color code. I had to switch two wires after my first try, but not difficult. So I am happy to have a working lamp that I can't keep my hands off of - get it? You have to touch .... ok corny, I know.
