As I said before, the Dick Van Dyke so is one of the greatest sit coms going. Just to enjoy over and over again or to study for writing, acting, directing, whatever. It's a joy! This season has a lot of nostalgia for us baby boomers: "The Man from My Uncle" is a classic! And this season has two of my all time favorites Mary Tyler Moore's tour de force in "Long Night's Journey into Day" is beyond hysterical and they all so nailed it! "Uhny Uftz" is another unforgetable nod to the sixties sci/fi's with a Dick Van Dyke flare! "The Ugliest Dog in the World" predicts doggy realities of today! Really, you have to get these DVD's. Not only do we get these cool extras but we even get commercials for detergent made by Van Dyke himself!!! How cool!! Get these!!!!
Dick Van Dyke is one of the funniest shows. The actors do not only appear and speak but are hilariously funny and are also talented enough to sing as well as dance - Dick, Mary and Rosemarie. Morey Amsterdam has been described as the human joke machine and indeed he is, I love the easy banter between him and Richard Deacon but Morey was also very talented on the cello. I also like the fact that other actors, not related to the show make appearances.Carl Reiner's writing of this show is fantastic and really showcases these talented actors. But most of all my grand children love watching this show.
I had heard that Reiner and Van Dyke wanted to end the show on top, and they succeeded. This 5th season, the final season, is just as wonderful as the first season. The writing is hilarious, the stories unique, and the characters had truly developed by this time. This is one of my all-time favorite classic TV shows - the acting is natural, the comic timing impeccable, the sense of ensemble beautiful. They don't make them like this anymore!!
Season 5 contains episodes not usually seen in the reruns on cable TV. One of the most interesting is when the whole cast (other than Reiner) break into Allan Brady's house to retrieve a script with pejoritive notes scribled on the edges about Allan. Additionally, two latino personalities work into this season and the "Extras" contain recent award footage that complement the shows contributions to its social commmentary portrayed at the time. All the seasons of this show are worth having. Highly recommended, fun viewing.
Very possibly the best, classic series of all time! The cast is all excellent - and the writing is wonderful. This show is great for all generations. If you grew up on it, you love it. If you've never seen it before, what a treasure to start watching them now. You can't go wrong with this show - for yourself or for gifts. This is one series I can watch over and over, and never get bored with it. It's a true classic!
