It is a good sounding cd player and and good looking dvd player however beware! After these players get older the machine starts to scratch your discs. If you do a search online you will see that people with Denon players (including this model) complain of this. There are two problems going on. One is the bottom spindle. The rubber will wear out and it will cause the dvd or cd to slip while spinning while being initially read, you will hear a grinding noise if this is happening, it will cause inner hub scratches. Another problem seems to be the laser will extend too far while starting to read the disc and the lense on the laser will hit the spinning disc cause scratches directly on the disc playing area. Very bad! It's too bad because this player has good red book cd play back sound but you will be quite angry when this DENON machine destroys any of your old MFSL cd's. I'm pretty sure Denon knows this but since it is an older model there is nothing that can be done.I have had many disc players over the years and only Denon has done this and I have only read online of Denon players doing it. This DVD is a great example of early ( pre-Blu-Ray ) technology. Matches the rest of my early 2000's vintage Denon equipment. Had a DVD-5000 before which quit and this is a good replacement for less $100.00. I will enjoy it I am sure.

This DVD player is great. I've watched 12 movies so far and it was like watching them for the first time. My kids were saying "when did they put those trumpets in there" and "I didn't hear that before" when referring to subtle background sounds and voices. I should've stepped up my DVD player a long time ago. So what's the big deal about this "Chroma Bug". I haven't seen anything but stunning natural colors and my eyes don't hurt when there is a quick camera pan.
