This is the tool I've needed for years instead of working with a pin-vise with small (.0165" dia) bits. When drilling holes in injection-molded plastic models, a low-speed drill is important or the plastic heats up and melts, making a serious problem for the serious modelmaker. This is the ideal tool for that as the chuck is small enough to hold the micro bits and lets you slow the speed down to a crawl but...it's off-center. Just by about a half mm but enough. This means I have to take the chuck post off the electric motor shaft, get a piece of brass rod stock and put it on the lathe and mill a new one and drill a perfect center hole for the motor shaft. Once that's done it should be an awesome little drill.

Not sure if the Jacob chuck with tapered ID will remain attached to the straight motor shaft. Works for now. And chuck with drill bit does run true. But the chuck is not positively attached. Motor shalt does not have matching taper like a drill press arbor. So not sure what will prevent slippage under heavier load. Will probably be ok for light drilling. Time will tell.

This drill is perfect for those small drill bits, and really good control with grinder bits. Oh ya every diy guy needs one of these baby's for his tool box. Really like the variable speed too and the push button 1/0 switch. Good tool. micor-84

I've had this drill for 18 months now (one of the 1198 they mention sold), and for the price I thought it was going to be iffy if it actually worked, but to my surprise mine was very well built. There was none of the off center wobble that others have mentioned. Not sure if it is quality control or later production or what, so my review is based upon my experience. I use #77 to #80 bits (super tiny) in the chuck, and they hold perfectly. The on off switch is easy to activate with the same hand while holding the drill. I run the variable speed at slow and it just purrs without stalling. I've made over 300 holes with out breaking one of the microbits, far superior to the bulky Dremel type drill I was using in the past.

Great for small bits up to About a 1/16". Needs more torque for larger bits. At slow speeds with the larger bits it stalls.. It also needs a more positive way to hold the chuck on its shaft. It keeps flying off. I love the size and it seems to be well made. Really handy for the light stuff.
