This review is for the Kinks 'kollectors' out there. This is a nice collection of Dave Davies songs composed and recorded between 1965-1969. The vast majority of these tracks have been issued as bonus material on both the Kinks' initial run of remasters from the late 1990s and the more recent deluxe editions of their 1960s albums. While this collection stands on its own merits quality-wise, the collector will note as per the information given on the back of the CD tray card that 3 of the included tracks are heretofore officially unreleased on compact disc (or on any format for that matter): "Do You Wish to Be a Man", "Are You Ready" and "Crying." For those 3 tracks alone, the collection is worth having for The Kinks fan since they are all quality, finished songs from the 1960s Kinks catalogue. I am something of a collector and have hunted down everything I can get by The Kinks and having been exposed to various "imports" of dubious quality, I can say that since this is an official release, the sound quality blows away any of the more sketchy copies I've come across from less than optimal sources. In addition to the fine music offered on this set are the liner notes which are informative and concise. Add to that the attractive CD artwork and this is an absolute must for any Kinks fan that must have it all. Additional collector's note: while there may be some alternate mixes of certain tracks that differentiate them from anything officially released prior, I did not notice any differences compelling enough to mention here. At any rate, as aforementioned, the 3 previously unissued tracks are reason enough to get this set.Read full review
