Darden has a very smooth delivery with a firm grasp on the flow of music. The songs could be described as somewhat generic fare but he always seems to be revealing some innermost feelings that make you think he is confiding in you personally. I love the variety of styles that roll along as the album plays out, yet you can feel the continuity in the overall tapestry. I first saw Darden perform at the Kerrville Folk Festival in 1985 and again in 86 Lost track of him for 15 years til I heard him on the Fan101 in San Antonio Tex about 91. I'm happy that he is still performing and hope that every endeavor he tries is successful. I bought it just to listen to him again and have bought everything {almost} that is available. Glad I did-waiting for the rest of my CDs to come in the mail.
For those of you who know Darden Smith's well crafted and insightful music and lyrics, I don't think that you will be disappointed. This C/D had some very cool muical instrumentation. I really loved the etherial Pedal Steel Guitar, played by the legendary LLoyd Maines (father of Natalie/dixiechicks fame). The backing vocals of Kim Richey also are beautiful. I really enjoy this music. If you don't know Darden Smith's music, you owe it to yourself to give it a listen. His blending of folk and country are very pleasing. If you are a guitar player, I think that you will like his finger style playing. He really has a knack for addicitive melody.
The CD was released in 2004 and is Country/Folk.Darden Smith is a Austin Texas based singer songwriter.Shawn Colvin appears on two tracks with vocals. Lloyd Maines appears on three tracks playing pedal steel.
