I've been using a D-Link DIR-601 Wireless N Router for about 6 months and was impressed with how easy the installation was. The reliability of that model, along with the price I paid for it (bought it for $23.00 new) perked my interest in upgrading to another D-Link router. This is primarily why I started reading reviews on the DIR-625. This router is a few years old, and the only difficulty I had with it, is due to this fact, and well because I'm cheap also. I started bidding on used DIR-625s and bought one that I thought was reasonable ($21.00)and after getting this one in the mail, started the setup process. It didn't take long to learn that the Network Magic software that comes with the router on the disc is not compatible with Windows 7. To old for that OS. Now the install wizard will make you think that you need to install this software in order to use the router. That is not so. The product manual that is on the install CD also shows you how to use the web based installation wizard, which I recommend if you are using Windows 7. That being said, I got the router installed and did the most important thing, tested the wireless range of the router. My previous DIR-601 would allow you to use a laptop or net book in the house in all rooms with four bar signal up to a radius of around 30 feet. My house isn't big so that was okay for my original purposes. Then, I decided I wanted WIFI in my shop which is a metal building some 20 feet from my house. The signal from the D-601 didn't have a chance reaching that far. Now that I've installed the D-625 RangeBooster, I can walk out in the middle of my yard and get 5 bars of signal AND walk inside my metal shop to the farthest corner and get 5 bars of signal. That in itself was enough to justify the upgrade of the router. This saved me the cost of running an external RP-SMA cable, a Yagi type antenna and pole, and of course a great deal of hassle. Not to mention that the DIR-601 did not have a removable antenna. The DIR-625 router does and has TWO removable antenna. Another cool feature. Just remember that if you are using an older operating system with Win XP or maybe Vista, the provided Network Magic installation should work for you, but if using Windows 7, forget about it. Use the web based install option. All in all a very good router with faster than cable WIFI at a reasonable price.Read full review
my previous wireless router was a simple dlink DI524, but I needed to share a HP MFP 1120 printer with two notebooks and the signal wasn't reaching my PS3 with acceptable quality and strength. I made some research and decided to buy this model, and I'm very pleased with it. The Share Port function works like charm and now the signal to my PS3 is 100%. I bought it used from Hong Kong(It is almost new), for US$37,00, it was a fantastic deal. It has many advanced features, like QoS, but I didn't "play" with those yet.
The DIR-625 is one of the most reliable routers D-Link has ever made. It is easy to setup, has good range and works fine on both wired and wireless. I have a 50MB connection, and I get the FULL 50MB on my wireless. I personally see no downside on this router. The range on wireless is excellent. I have purchased this router for several of my customers, and all have worked problem free. I prefer the latest version with the C1 firmware.
I bought this router about a month ago to replace my aging Linksys wireless router. This router has a great range, I can get a good signal everywhere in my house! This router also has many types of encryption, it has WEP (outdated), WPA, and WPA2 encryption. Overall I have been very impressed with this router, and if your looking for a good, well priced wireless router I would suggest you get the D-Link DIR-625 wireless router. Thanks for reading my review!
Easy setup, nice range, a lot of functions, N speed. There'is a lot of other multimedia devices compatible with this d-link model ( like WDTV * ) You can stream video. Bad thing: upgraded firmware, but it's hanging sometimes anyway - needs reset
