I was acquainted with this book as a friend had loaned it to me. I knew what to expect and knew that I wanted it. It has more than fulfilled my expectations and I am grateful for it. By the way this book is in excellent condition!!!!! Than you

The book came in and I gave it to my 10 yr. old to help with her hair. It was recommended to me by a parent, so I thought I was safe. Think again - shortly after my daughter was reviewing it, she asked - "Mom what is spontaneous sex?" I said, what, are you kidding me - needless to say this book is not appropriate for young girls. We will not be keeping this book - buyer beware - read the content before you give it to your kid. Content may be OK for hair tips - I did not review to be honest - I will look for a book more age appropriate for my daugher. Very disappointed in the references to sex - that was inappropriate.

Curly Girl rocks! I have permed hair, have never had so many compliments in my life, and have recommended the book to everyone that asks. A friend bought 4 books and gave one to her hairdresser, too. Great photos, stories, recipes for homemade products and an author with a great sense of humor. As another reviewer said, after you get over the shock of not shampooing (though I do very occasionally), your hair will feel so soft. The clear styling lotion at the end sets the curls just you'd like them. Kathy
If you have curly or wavy hair, (yes even if its just wavy) you have to have this book. It will change your life forever! I wish I would have had it sooner. This book will really show you how to have beautiful curls and waves and get your hair in the best condition and you will never have that stringy 80's, frizzy, crispy look. They will be natural, shiny, beautiful curls and waves. And it made my wavy hair more on the curly side (which I wanted) I was tired of fighting with my hair and straightening it for so many years and having it ruined and damaged. Well, now my hair is silky, soft and shiny and healthy! Its the best info a girl (or guy) could have on caring for natural curls. Don't wait another day. Don't fight your hair anymore. Embrace it and learn how to care for it so it looks the best it possibly can.Read full review
I tried the CG method and came to the conclusion that certain methods were not for me. For instance, The no shampooing method does not work for me and I think its kinda gross. Even if you dont use silicones in your products you are still bound to get build up and nothing can remove it with out a little sulfate. I like how my hair responds better to styling when its clean but im not fond of the stripped feeling and extra fluff after shampooing so I came up with my own solution and everytime I shower i dilute my shampoo a little so its less harsh. (dont pre dilute it in a bottle because then you will break down the preservatives and fungus can grow in it, just dilute as you go) I found all the models hair to look really dull and kinda nasty looking(I believe this is a result from CG because ouidad models in "Curl Talk" looked good) Lorraine Masseys hair looked gross in the book also. I also still use silicones but try to stick to water soluble cones. If I use a heavy silicone I make sure I wash my hair well the next day. I liked her idea of the Lavender Spray. All in all I think her mothod was a little extreme. after all its just hair and believe it or not her so called method can actually make hair and scalp worse. I take very good care of my hair and this still was a bit extreme. The good thing about her book is that it opens your mind. Some things are agreeable like how harsh shampoo's are but you dont have to follow her no shampoo routine and you can just use a specialty or modified shampoo. Between reading both Lorraine Massey's Curly Girl and Ouidad's Curl Talk, I think your better off just researching ingredients in hair products (yup you have to become a lil chemist, but dont be scared its not that hard, I learned it in 2 days, and it's only a handful of things you need to know). That's where all the problems usually are. You have to know which ingredients are a no no and which are vital. Hair and products are basically chemistry and you should know how they will react and what they are used for. Some ingredients will damage your hair. Everything else is basic, like you should know to always comb curly hair and never use a brush, Never style or comb dry curly hair because obvisiouly this will break up the curl pattern and cause frizz, curly hair needs alot of moisture, Always be gentle and treat your hair like a fine lace, etc etc...its all common sense, the real success in caring for your hair is learning those dang ingredients!!!!! I highly recommend NaturallyCurly.com I learned so much from that site. I just use their search bar for everyhting I can think of (like i'll type protein sensitive or hair oils or wet or dry hair?)...You will be suprised with that site...its a whole community of curly heads who share info. There are alot of girls on there who actually follow the CG(curly girl) method and have great success and there are alot of girls who didnt have good success. To each its' own, everyone is different. Basically this book is good for someone who has zero knowledge on curly hair. Dont feel like you have to follow every routine, you can modify it and make your own version. I heard Lorraine Massey is making another book, I probably will buy it just cuz. Here is a basic list of bad/good ingredients: http://curlyhair.wikia.com/wiki/Curly_Girl_Products copy and paste link also if you go to NaturallyCurly.com and type bad ingredients in the search bar a whole list of postings come up. print them and keep them on you.Read full review
