Crusades was a great treat for my family and I. I had seen a brief part of it in a class that covered organized religion and found it facinating. When I got the whole series, I sat down and watched it in one sitting. The narration is not so high brow that my two 8 yr olds and my 12 year old kids could not understand what was going on. They found this DVD a fun look at that time period and still learned a lot in the process. The visual effects of this DVD where not over the top or eye candy and the realistic depiction of time periods was great. I would recommed this DVD to anyone who is even vaguely interested in this topic or just in history in general. It really explains things in a down to earth way.
If you like Terry Jones and the other members of the Monty Python flying circus cast, and you like the idea of a horrible tragedy in World History blended with this sort of British satire...then this documentary about the Crusades is for you! Some of the historical accuracy in the story has it discrepancies to what may or may not have been facts about the Crusades. However, the documentary does the overall intent of the story/HIstory of the crusades accurate justice. Four different chapters are on 2 separate DVD discs in this collection, presented in Full Screen format. The video quality is a little lacking, as if it were not up-converted in transfer, but sound quality is OK and allows the original format for an almost 20 year old documentary. If you want a fairly accurate depiction of the crusades complimented by a little comedy, I recommend The Crusades presented by Terry Jones.Read full review
Very amusing historical presentation with a Monty Python air. A History lesson to be sure but never dry and chock full of esoteric data. Definitely a DVD which will both amuse and instruct.

I really liked watching this documentary. Terry Jones does an excellent job of explaining the politics, the societies, and mind sets that lead to and existed during the Crusades. The other element I found interesting was explaining how life differs today from the time of the Crusades. This is entertainment and education.
This is great for fans of the crusades. It's a rather entertaining documentary with a humorous host. Just wish it was on bluray at least!
