I like the fact that it offers a solution to have digital ins and outs on the 3.5mm plug. I also have the riser which separates the 7.1 channels which is good for my Logitech speaker setup. The sound is stunning, Another great creative product. Disadvantages or annoyances: This doesn't play or enhance the internal speakers of your laptop. This runs completely separate form your laptop audio system if your laptop has on board sound. Also it used Express Card 54. Have to be careful. Not all laptops have this form factor for support of 54 card bus devices. Lastly. Uses laptop battery power. Not alot but its a parasitic drain. Works great for my application. I'm happy.
The product is amazing. The sound improved from a punch less bass and weak treble to a great sound. I also had issues with maximum sound with default (and realteck drivers). This problem also got solved. The Creative drivers are a bit of pain though. The default drivers for this device with win 7 work fine but do not give additional features available with Creative driver distribution. The creative drivers worked fine for me but then started giving trouble after 20 days or so. Every time I stop an app using sound driver, it would die with a continuous buzzing sound. It would stop only when I trigger something which uses the sound driver again. I had to go back to windows drivers to solve this problem. I have to take away one star for that issue. A great upgrade otherwise. solved my issues with sound completely. The games are more livelier and movies more entertaining! -AkshayRead full review
I was experiencing BSOD's caused by some problem with the integrated high def audio chip and driver in my HP dv7. I was tired of fighting it. I'm using this laptop for music in my church worships service and BSOD is not good in the middle of that. Creative makes great sound cards and the X-Fi is no exception. I have the X-Fi in my desktop and know the great sound out of it and wanted the same for my laptop. Even though this was a 'used' card, after installing the correct drivers I have been very pleased with it. The output is clear and crisp and no more BSOD's so far since using it. The only drawback I can see is that I can no longer use the speakers in the laptop wit this device but that's not a big loss. Over all I'm very pleased with my purchase of this card and highly recommend it.Read full review
This sound blaster allows for layered, full sound. Its accompanying software proffers user-friendly features for the sound's customization, as well as for recording input. The card's only downside is that it gets quite hot after a while, which may be problematic if your laptop is not well ventilated.
I happened to buy a great Dell M6700 that uses ExpressCard slots. I am a devoted fan of anything Creative. Been using their sound products for ever. This card is an enhancement to the stock sound chip in the Dell I purchased. Get better sound quality than the internal chip and can alter some settings to enhance the audio. Fortunately, and the reason I bought it, Creative recently updated their drivers on these and many legacy cards to support Windows 7 (and yes there are some of us holdouts who will cling to Windows 7 until the end). Unfortunately Creative has not and will probably not update the drivers to support Windows 10. But for now it works like a charm. Please not that this is an ExpressCard 54 meaning it will only fit in 54 slots. It will not work in 34 slots. Also part of the card sticks out and in this card it sticks out a lot. Hopefully it wont get banged up to much. There are USB alternatives but for $17, which is what I paid for mine, you cant got wrong. Happy customer.Read full review
