I d recommend this for a clear coverage of the most important aspects of Bulgarian political history. Very readable. The complexities of Bulgarian culture lie beyond the remit of this clear and readable book, though many pointers for further reading themes are here. A outline of the political forces at work is clearly drawn, the historical causes of ethnic and territorial conflicts and ambitions is given a basic framework, and there is a some good basic information about the role of the orthodox church, some of the radical movements, and the ever present influence of powerful external forces from other powers and states in the world.
