En Mexico, la industria textil y de la confeccion, ha sido de los sectores mas golpeados en los ultimos anos, aun cuando a finales del siglo pasado alcanzo niveles de crecimiento record, impulsados principalmente por la firma y puesta en marcha del Tratado de Libre Comercio con Estados Unidos y Canada (TLCAN). Esta industria, intensiva en mano de obra, se ha visto trastocada desde el ingreso de China a la Organizacion Mundial de Comercio (OMC), la firma del acuerdo comercial entre ambos paises firmado en 2008, ha podido ampliar la entrada de textiles y prendas de vestir chinas a Mexico hasta el 2012, por lo que los esfuerzos para mejorar el nivel competitivo de esta industria, se hacen imprescindibles. Para los Estados de Michoacan y Guanajuato, la industria textil y de la confeccion tiene una larga historia que se ha caracterizado por su importancia economica y comercial, la cual actualmente, experimenta una contraccion de sus mercados y de su produccion. En este entorno, la presente investigacion busca identificar aquellos factores materializados en el territorio que explican el nivel competitivo de la region Bajio-Sur, y la incidencia en su industria textil y de la confeccion."
