The Coleman 442A is a good, all-around stove for backpacking and lightweight camping. Flame adjustment is not as controllable as on the earlier 440 stove with the separate flame control, but works reasonably well. The integral fuel tank will hold enough fuel for well over an hour burn time. It boils a pint of water in about 6 minutes, so more than enough for several 2-person meals, plus coffee or hot chocolate. The ability to burn unleaded gasoline really cuts the fuel cost. Coleman fuel is about $14.00 per gallon at my local hardware store and gas is less than $2.00 per gallon. The Scouts in my son's troop use the MSR Whisperlite and Dragonfly stoves for backpacking trips. The Coleman is a little bulkier, but is simpler to use with all components and the tank integral to the stove. I have two very similar models of this stove and am pleased with their performance. Replacement parts are still available. Don't know why Coleman is out of the business of making these good little stoves, but I'm a fan. Used 442A stoves on eBay in good condition are a great value, providing dependable service at a reasonable price.Read full review
