My husband and I live on an Island and shop at Costco when we are on the mainland. Now, we don't have to worry about bringing back chicken and beef on warm days. We just plug in the Coleman Cooler when we begin our trip and by the time we get to Costco, it's nice and cold. During our three-hour ferry ride it stayed beautifully cold even though it was unplugged. Note: Because of the fan, it's important not to block the air vent, so we just place it on backseat. And, the best part is if we have an overnight, we just take it into our hotel room and plug it in. We're planning a trip down the Oregon coast and will definitely be taking it with us. Also great for keeping extra beer and wine cold when we have guests. Love this product...

The one I bought did not cool very well.It might have been because the internal fan only ran part of the time. Maybe under the right conditions. My friend has one and loves it , but he lives out in the country and his is running for like one hour when he goes to mansfield His cools off very fast tho.

I found one of these exact Coleman Models at a local Big Box Store based in Bentonville, AR (for less). I used it in hot weather while in Arkansas with expectations it would keep most food fresh. It does not cool to 40 degrees less than the ambient temperature as claimed. The amps it draws is considerably higher than claimed on the package and will kill a 12 vdc deep cycle or car battery quickly within an hour without any charger or alternator keeping the battery topped off. It works okay inside with air conditioning, but not outdoors or anywhere without AC. All my food quickly spoiled and a few times the inside temperature would get up to 70+ degrees even while running and the door left closed for hours. It never once got below 52 degrees F. Coleman has slipped in quality over the past few years and no longer makes the products we once trusted. I returned it to the local store and still had foul odors that collected in the fan even after cleaning the inside once food ruined inside. It holds smells in the fan from inside the fridge. Condensation often built up inside keeping it wet and damp when running. I didn't own it long enough for mold to grow, but with the poor design more than 7 days of use would grow a civilization inside. Read full review

I bought this cooler for a couple of upcoming road trips. I live in Arizona where it has been 115 degrees lately! I also work out of my car. I decided to try it out. If I place a cooler pack in the cooler in the morning and let it run while I am in the car driving from location to location, I have cold water all day!!!

I have had my Colman 40 at cooler for over a year now, works like a champ. I drive truck for a living and am in the truck 5 out of 7 days every week. This cooler is the best thing I ever bought. The only thing I have a problem with is the current draw, yes if it is plugged in without the ENGINE running it will KILL the battery in about two hours. My tractor has a voltage monitor that will start the engine if the battery voltage drops below 11.5 v. As far as cooling... let me tell you this... my cooler stays in the truck during the weekends unless I take it home for a cleaning, I have seen it "FREEZE" my water with the outside air temperature is below 60 deg. And I mean FREEZE as in solid ice. As to the current draw as I said it loves voltage and I have melted several of the cigar lighter plugs due to the current draw. The outside cooling fan and thermal unit needs to be cleaned at a least once a week and if not the inside cooling fins will freeze over and require a defrost which will be a little messy. I liked this cooler so much I bought a second one to use it our motorhome for cold water and soda. Worth its weight in gold in my opinion. Read full review
