My handicap + 2. My age = 65. Years playing golf = 42. What I like about this club? First of all, I purchased the 2006 model Hi-Bore 10.5 degree driver with the UST ProForce V2 stiff shaft. It has been the BEST driver I've ever used in 40 years. I drive consistently 250 carry + 15 roll yards. I actually liked the scoop back design of the Hi-Bore head. It did not look so massive to me and being more of a traditionalist, I don't like massive looking clubs. That's one reason I purchased the matching 3 and 5 woods with the same shafts. They were more the size of the traditional fairway woods, yet with much better technological design features. The feeling when striking the ball is solid and the ball gets airborn easily, due to the low center of gravity. The 2006 model is smaller than the XL and XLS models which I like. It amazes me why a club manufacturer doesn't keep making a popular and effective design and they bring out 'new' designs every year. More people will buy the 2006 HiBore fairway wood as compared to the XL and XLS models simply because of its smaller size and playability. Both my 3 and 5 wood set up well behind the ball and are very easy to hit. Distance wise, I hit the 15 degree 3 wood about 250 total yards and the 19 degree 5 wood around 220 yards. I prefer the fairway wood design to the modern hybrids mostly because the fairway woods are a more traditional design. I also get more distance with a fairway wood as opposed to a hybrid with the same loft due to the longer shaft and faster clubhead speed. It's just easier to hit for me. I believe the UST V2 shaft is probably a better shaft than the standard Fujikura shaft that Cleveland puts in their clubs. It's been a great shaft for me in the Hi-Bore driver. I own a 13 degree Hi-Bore fairway wood with the same shaft but found it's launch angle is a little too low for me. Excellent design and up-to-date technology make these woods some of the most popular fairway woods being played today.Read full review
Bought the 3 & 5 wood HiBores after buying the 10.5 Hibore Driver. Cleveland lists swingweight as D1, and the 3 wood was a C6 and the 5 Wood C7. Although both clubs were listed length, they had a lighter feel than the D-2 Driver. The folks at Cleveland were willing to take care of both clubs, but by the time they go back to me, I took they to a Master Club Builder locally and had them both extended 1/2" to bring them to D1. Awesome distance from both clubs, easy to get up in the air, the 3 wood is comparable to the distance I was getting from my old Cobra 440SZ Driver. The HiBore Driver is at least 15 yards longer than the Cobra, and I can work the ball with the Clevelands. The only thing I don't like about the Cleveland HiBore's are the ugly headcovers!
Hibore is the perfect fairway wood. It's long, playable, and forgiving. The matte black finish sets up a classy package. The size is just right, not enormous or tiny. The scoop is surprisingly attractive (though I would not prefer it on my driver). The feel at impact is very satisfying. Very solid feel and a thwack sound is generated by the 455 carpenter steel face. The club is easy to swing and more importantly an ease to hit. A point-and-shoot, automatic wood. It picks off the ball from the fairway, and it cuts through the rough. Good trajectory and excellent distance. The Hibore will appeal to both weekend warriors and better players.
I bid on and bought this club from golf22102 and got a great deal and INCREDIBLY fast shipping and handling, etc. I have the Hi-Bore Driver (also bought on eBay) and thought I needed a matching three wood. Well, I got it on Thursday, put it in my bag and played this morning. First shot I used it on was a par-3, 191 yd, uphill hole. (Definitely 3-wood for me.) I took a practice swing, and BLAM . . . pin-high 8 ft. from the hole. I two putted a par. I was a bit suspicious of the flex in the shaft (billed as "stiff"), but my suspicion is that this club's "stiff" is a Regular-plus (it also comes in EXTRA-stiff). I love it. Great deal. Great club. I own the 3W & 5W versions. Both of these fairway woods feel and look solid and streamlined, and, more importantly, produce impressive results from the fairway, light rough, and off the tee. I also own the Hi-Bore hybrid 2i, 3i, & 4i clubs, which have a similar look and feel to the fairway woods. Each of the hybrids is so much easier to use than its long-iron counterpart. The Hi Bore fairway woods and hybrids will enable you to achieve good distance and accuracy with all of your long shots and will make an attractive addition to your bag of playing clubs.
