This is a good general interest CD set.Disc One="West Point Classmates" describes how West Point graduates held a bond beyond the battlefield and being on opposing sides(Grant reportedly brought back the old times with Lee and Longstreet at Appomattox).Robt. E. Lee is a good historical overview.Disc 2=Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson described as a man with many odd habits and eccentricities but still Lee`s right-hand general. Sherman's march to the sea tells the story in a general manner yet still tells how Sherman's men were fond of him and revered Sherman all his life (the Southerners of course, hate Sherman to this day). One anecdote has an old veteran knocking on Sherman's door many years after the war. Seeing the man was destitute Sherman gave him money. Each episode begins with Danny Glover (I don't like his politics and would not put him in it) narrating the story with the song "Sometimes I Feel Like A Motherless Child" being sung. I enjoyed this set as being a good historical story. Don't care for Glover or that song. I recommend this set as for basic historical content-not in depth.Read full review
I have several DVDs about the Civil War produced by the History Channel and I think they should be used in schools to teach history. This dvd brings to life some of the main leaders. Seeing pictures of them and maps of where they fought, hearing comments made by their friends and enemies makes me want to know even more about history. you do not have to be a history buff to enjoy these DVDs.
One of the BEST Civil War DVDs ever. The in-depth coverage of the commanders was enlightening. I learned so much that I didn't know. I am going to donate this DVD to our school. I believe that the children will be entertained and educated at the same time. I would recommend this DVD to EVERYONE!!!
I was disappointed. There was no mention of some of the important leaders. Coverage was shallow and analysis simplistic.

It's been awhile since I've watched it. I actually bought it for my 10 yr old cousin. He is a lot like me, he likes to learn about history. The Civil War is the most important war to me. This dvd is very educational for both children and adults.
