This book comes in great for quick reference and explanation of pix concepts. When I was studying for the CCSP I used the Cisco Press CCSP SNPA exam book... this book does a much better job of covering topics and clearly explaining them. A nice feature of this title is that it identifies differences in command syntax in 6.3, 7.x, and FWSM. For example, from p.48 (text in caps should be bold): FWSM 2.x Firewall(config)# NAMEIF vlan-id if_name SECURITYlevel PIX 6.x Firewall(config)# NAMEIF {hardware-id | vlan-id} if_name SECURITYlevel PIX 7.x Firewall(config)# INTERFACE hardware_id[.subinterface] Firewall(config-if)# NAMEIF if_name Firewall(config-if)# SECURITY-LEVEL level The one negative thing I have to say about this title is that it does not touch on VPNs at all. From the introduction: "This book covers only the features that can be used for stateful traffic inspection and overall network security. Although Cisco firewalls can also support VPN functions, those subjects are not covered here. They are presented in their entirety in Cisco IPSec VPN Handbook (ISBN 1-58705-203-2)." Unfortunately, the vpn book they reference doesn't cover 7.x. To really cover everything, I would recommend the following two books: Cisco ASA and PIX Firewall Handbook and The complete Cisco Vpn Configuration GuideRead full review
