The Cisco 2611 is a great learning router or used to run a small business either in your home or small office. The router does not have a lot of throughput only 10mb max which most service providers far surpass that limit for downloading but it does support a multitude of WIC cards for upgrading or connecting different networks. This would also make a great VOIP router if running a T1 as that only needs 1.5mb. Either way for the price and connectivity you can achieve with the 2611 you cant go wrong.
The 2611 is a great router for almost anything. They are very flexible and support many wics, vics and modules. One does need to be aware of what version of ios and features / functions you need. It does pay to have the extra ram & flash and current boot rom. They are still very useful with low ram, but you wont necessarily be able to load a different ios without and upgrade. A quick look on Cisco's website will help if you are unsure.
The 2611 router is a great router to learn on for your CCNA. It has the right IOS for learning the commands used on the CCNA exam. It also has 2 Ethernet ports compared to 1 on 2610 model (which is good to learn on too). Yet when you are finished with your CCNA you can implement this router into your home network. Now that you have earned your CCNA you can go many different paths CCNP, CCDP etc. and this router will follow along with you. I hope this helped you to decide on which router to get. My only favor is that when you see my login buy one not to out bid me.
This is a great modular router with two integrated WIC (Wan Interface Card) slots to support your needs. It has 1 or 2 Fast Ethernet ports typically used for an ethernet switch or ethernet hub in your installation. Great for the small offices to connect whether it be domestic or international. A good router for the frame relay environment.
This router replaced the cisco 2611 I had before. I ordered it to get full throughput on my 50mbps line. This router was easy to configure and setup with my 2600 series switch and my WAP. Everything was a breeze. I highly recommend this router for basic home or small office setups.
