If you are interested in post World War 2 aviation or 20th century history this is a book you may want to read. Chuck Yeager is the "voice" of aviation- it seems all pilots talk in his slow, even clear drawl when talking on the radio. This book gives a balanced, interesting view of the man and the airplane. Just the right amount of technical information, personal interest information and pictures. Covers who, what,where,when and how to find out more in a pleasant, easy to read format. Good read!
For anyone who wants to know the nuts and bolts about the Mach 1 flight by Charles "Chuck" Yeager, this is the book for you. The bell X-1 project was on of the Navy's projects. Reaction mtors, Inc a New Jersey based company was the first to develop the first liqued fueled rocket engines in the United States. With their excellent track record, the Navy approached RMI for their expertese in developing the powerplant for this experimantal aircrat built by Bell Aviation. This is a great book with many great photos and details about this historic flight whcih took place on october 14, 1947. Not only did RMI develop the XLR-11 rocket engine for Yeagers flight, they also developed the XLR-99 rocket engine that powered the X-15. Great history of our early space efdforts and for those who live in New jersey, something that hit's close to home.
