Notes
Heaven Or Hell Or Wherever features studio versions of fifteen songs written for Theater Oobleck's "Baudelaire in A Box" project. The first five tracks-composed to sonnets from the "Death" section of Les Fleurs du mal-are done in a neo-cabaret style, with contributions from A Hawk And A Hacksaw violinist Heather Trost and core members of New Mexico's Art of Flying. Tracks 6-12 comprise Baudelaire's longest poem, The Voyage, done as a minimalist rock operetta, featuring vocals by Emmy Bean, keyboards by MyMyMy's John Szymanski, and accordion by Mucca Pazza's Ronnie Kuller. The final three "bonus" tracks include "The Giantess," a languid, campfire-ish tune about a boy's love for his, well, giantess, and "The Sick Muse," an ailing glam waltz. The Alibi called Heaven Or Hell Or Wherever 'darkly beautiful,' highlighting the album's 'elaborate, sometimes modal, folk melodies.' All songs are set to Schoen's own original translations of the poems.
