I'd rate this excellent if I was a mechanic. Poor if I'd never opened the hood of my car by myself and average if I'd changed my oil and plugs for years. For my current purposes, it was good but it didn't work. Odd, I know, but I wanted a manual that would help me do the brakes on my '99 Subaru because I haven't been able to find a Chiltons (novice version) or Haynes Manual for the car. My problem is, the book doesn't cover brakes. It covers engine assembly and disassembly, transmission a/da, some electrics and what I suspect are the other "proprietary" aspects of each model it covers. It covers alot, believe me, just not the brake systems of my car, or many others. Big plus, the price I paid the seller made it easy to donate the book to my favorite mechanic (the guy who does what I don't have the time or expertise to do but still answers my questions about how to do simple things!). He's happy and I figured out the brake a/da by logic and my own repetitive a/da.Read full review
As a repair professional, I find Chilton Manuals a great source of information in the workplace. Chilton's layout is easy to use and supplies good information. The only drawback is that you have to know the basics in order to apply the information supplied. Not great for the average DIY.
