I love all books written by Sandra Brown. This woman can write. Can't say enough goods things about this one. This is a mystery, sort of reminds me of Agatha Christie. This is a story of a woman named Cat Delaney. She is a soap opera star who needed a heart. Due to cancer she had as a child and the kemo that followed her heart was damaged beyond repair. Cat is on her way into the operating room on the firts page. Wonderful. She receives her heart, not wanting to know who donated it. Cat's surgery is a success. Now we get to the heart of the story. We are given different situations. Each one of these is one of the doners of a heart. One dies in childbirth, one a motorcycle accident, one is murdered by her husband. Now, close to four years later Cat starts recieving these letters about other heart transplantees who have died on the anniversay of their transplant. Cat is now becoming scared because her anniversary is fast approaching. Cat no longer wants to be an actress, she moves and starts an organization to help kids that are sick and in need of parents who will love them. This is called Cat's kids. Through this she meets a writer named Alex. These two become as thick as theives. After she receives the third letter about the death of a heart transplantee dying, she tells Alex. He is an ex-cop and he tries to help her find out who is sending these letters to her. One is amazing, the husband came home in the middle of the day to find his wife in bed with another man. he goes nuts and takes a baseball bat to her head. She lives with the help of a medical team. He gives them permission, from his jail cell to harvest her heart. He goes on trial for murder, but he is found not guilty because his wife wasn't really dead when she arrived at the hospital. She was brain dead and would never function without half her head but not legally dead. One of the others is a biker who tries to outrun another bike down a hill and he doesn't make it. His head is taken off as he can't stop when he goes around a curve to find a semi truck in the middle of the road. The bike and his body make it to the other side. You gotta read it to get the full effect. Now Alex and Cat have to find out who is doing these things to her before her anniversary date. She falls in love with Alex and then she discovers the room in his house that has all the newspaper clippings of all the heart tranplantees in it. Now she thinks he is the one doing all of these things. She runs home, finds her ex-lover and her producer at her home. Now, she feels safe and tells the producer to call the police to arrest Alex. Cat takes a long bath, after having sex with Alex she feels dirty. While she is in the bath, her producer comes in and holds a hairdryer over the water. This is when Alex breaks into her home through a window and cuts the power, saving her life. In the end we find out that the murderer is Jeff, her producer. He wanted to stop the beating of his lovers heart. She deserved to be buried whole. Remember the woman caught in bed? It was her lover, he got away from the husband and was traveling around killing all the heart transplantees to stop her heart. He knew who got the heart but wanted to make sure there was no mistake so he set his mind to kill all the heart transplantees from that day. I can't say enough good things about this book. My husband recently gave a kidney to his sister. I can relate to the concept of this book. Read it.Read full review
