The in-depth character profiles that are common in the Net Force series are enjoyable, but there have been a few times that I've wondered why the authors bothered with some of them. The storyline in this particular book seems a little shallow. It is almost as though the possibilities for Net Force have been all used up. A little bit of VR is okay, but it seems to take up half the book and I found myself skipping paragraphs after skimming them and finding nothing important. The villain's right-hand guy is a character that, to me, was never fully developed - too many details of his guitar obsession, too little details of how he came to be, how he exists, or even how he moves from place to place in several instances. How did Alex and Toni learn about Jay's mishap and how did they initially react? Those kind of details would have fit the main-character details in previous books. Perhaps that is the way the author is replacing the Michaels characters, by leaving out some detail. It is still a good story, but seems to have been too hurriedly put together. It needs a good editing and filling in the gaps. Because it falls next in the series it is worth reading to keep up to date, but definitely not one of the best of the series.Read full review
