Have always loved this movie, and believe Robert Mitchum's performance was one of his best. He should have at least received an Academy Award Nomination. The remake by DeNiro can not hold a candle to this original. This film holds your attention and holds up even today as a Great Film with 2 Great actors at their best Peck & Mitchum!

The "old" 1962 Cape Fear is a far superior story/movie to the "new" 1991Cape Fear. I've seen them both. Robert Mitchum's character Max Cady is a shrewd, cold and conniving killer who draws-out gut-wrenching, primal fear in the people he threatens (as well as the audience). There is no doubt about his intention to carry-out his thinly veiled threats in a cruel and barbaric manner; it's only a matter of time. I first saw the movie shortly after it came-out back in the early sixties. It was years before I could stand to see it again. It is that good.

Not a movie for someone who has a Karen in the neighborhood. Robert Mitchum's part reminds me of one we had, she moved but still walks down our street to taunt us. One of these days I'll watch it all and see what happens in the end.

This is the original, not the remake. I thought it was well done, and I enjoyed the older stars. I can't say I was overly scared, but it held my attention...
