Purchased an Amco Swing-A-Way can opener 6090. Easy to use. Opens cans with minimum effort which is great for us older folks with a little arthritis. The only draw back is that the cutting disc is a little on the blunt side. So the initial penetration into the can requires careful placement of the opener on the can and a good squeeze to punch through the lid. If you don't get it right the can lip might bend so you need to go and try another spot on the can. But the leverage from the crank handle is terrific and makes up for any drawback from the cutting disc. I improved mine by tapering the angle on the cutting disc on my hobby lathe in the garage. Easy to do and now the opener works even better.

Just bought the can opener and it works very well, with only one draw back. I was eager to put the new devise to task after owning several junk Chinese can openers which were very poor at best. So I reached into the cabinet for a regular size can (16oz) and began to use the new can opener. The blade dropped in nicely into the top of the can and gears began to do their work, once I began the full revolution of the handle, I found my knuckles hitting the counter top and the can tilting to one side and the contents of the can spilling out onto the counter. then I tried to hold everything over the sink and found it to be more difficult to use. The handle albeit sturdy was a little too long for your hand to make a complete rotation without hitting the counter. On larger cans it works very well and I am for the most part pleased with the performance and quality of the build. If you are going to open regular size cans often, you may want to raise the can on something so prevent your knuckles hitting the counter and the contents of the can spilling out. All in all a good quality product.Read full review

This brand used to had a great quality standard, but with the time that standard is dropping. This can opener is good for big cans like I said in the title, but sometimes, I get annoying for the small ones. The real problem could be that the company may be cutting costs with cheaper materials, and they don't last like used to be in the past. I'm still having can openers from this company the old ones with more than 20 years that still working in a pretty decent way, and I bought new ones, that got broken in less than 2 years. PS: That's bad!, that's all.

I bought this Swing-A-Way after replacing their other openers with the normal handle which didn't hold up, especially when opening #10 cans. I tried another recommended opener, and it lasted less time than the Swing-A-Way openers. I decided to give this unit, with the large handle a try. So far I have been impressed on the ease on how it handled the #10 cans, both piercing the lid and the ease of cutting with the large crank. It opened the can in short order. My wife has opened regular cans and is quite satisfied with its performance. Time will tell on how well the cutting edge on the wheel will hold up. After some time, the other Swing-A-Ways started to climb off the edge of the can rather than cutting the lid. This unit has longer handles which should give greater leverage to grip the can to help avoid this problem. But we've been pleased so far.Read full review
