The movie is a made for TV drama which may be enjoyed best by fans of Matlock and Perry Mason. Sure it's a drama about a young woman trying to make a name for herself while looking for her long lost son. Well she finds him then the usual TV drama line kicks in and everything starts to fall apart for her. My beef with this is that the movie jacket promotes Pfieffer in the lead role of Callie when she actually plays Callie's step-daughter half way through. The dialog could not be understood at least 40% of the time and the color faded in and out to make this movie almost unwatchable. I will give thumbs up to Dabney Coleman as Callie's husband. I thought he did a pretty good job in the role. So if it's a rainy day and you have nothing to do, try to stay awake through this film or just throw it out.Read full review
A good movie spanning 30 years of the life of Callie played by Lindsay Wagner and her son (I do not recall the actor's name who played the son). I found it emotionally touching that s poor unwed mother whose baby was taken away from her at a very young age, her mother turned her back on her, and her moving away. She tried to do the right thing, landing various jobs, and finally met and married a wealthy man who owned a newspaper. Because of her wealthy husband, she was reunited with her son and vowed she would never leave him or have him taken away from her. she was very attached to her son and this is here the real plot begins when the son got married. The son's wife, played by Michelle Pfeiffer, was jealous of the mother and son's relationship. One day, the daughter-in-law said some cruel things to the mother and they got into an altercation and the daughter-in-law was accidentally shot. However, the mother kept this information to herself, thinking the would come of the accidental shotting. But when the Grand Jury handed down an indictment against the son, she tried to confess the story to a lawyer but was not believed. Instead the lawyer thought the mother would do anything to save her son. In the end, the son was convicted, sentenced to death, and executed. While the mother was visiting her son during his last day before being executed, his subtly revealed to the mother that he knew she had shot his wife, but decided to take the rap for him. In fact, I also believe the son did not think the accidental shooting of his wife would even go to trial because they were rich and he a politician. In the end, the mother adopted another son. This new infant would take the place of the executed son, which would give the mother an opportunity to raise the new infant to adulthood and do the things for him that she was not able to do for her biological son. The film revealed some real life lessons. It is ironic that the mother's son was taken away from her as an infant and again as an adult. It seems that no matter what one does, destiny is still in control. No matter what the mother did, she could not hold on to the thing she loved most, her son. The film also revealed that if we fear losing something that we love too much, we will lose it anyway. Some things are not meant to be kept.Read full review
