Wedge is very solid. I have played other sand wedges, but never made purchase on a 'higher named' model until this point. About me: I'm a former collegiate golfer who still plays from time to time. I'm about a 7-8 handicap golfer at the present time (just don't play often enought). Now about this wedge, I broke my Hogan sandwedge that came with my set of Hogan irons, so I was in need of something to replace it. I found the Callaway X-forged vintage and it seemed like the right amount of performance at the right price. I like this wedge for what it offers...great bite (unlike any I've seen before) and good distance (to what I'm used to). The face seems a little closed to me, and I find that I really have to keep my hands back when taking any type of swing (short chips, mid-range, or full shots), or the shots will be pulled left. Of course it's a new club and a make/model I'm not used to, so that's probably why it's seeming quite different to me and with just 2 weeks of play under my belt with it, I'm still getting used to a new club. I will say though, that this thing really, I mean REALLY spins the ball!! I'm not a spin player, never have been, but with this wedge I feel like I could stop a ball on pavement (kinda like the "spin doctor wedge" commercials). I'm finding that even Pro-V covers are getting eaten up by this after a round or two of play. Anything with a really soft cover (ex: Taylormade Penta) got ripped up on shot number 1 with this wedge. Bottom line, it's a really solid wedge, and if you are looking for spin, this wedge will certainly do it without a doubt. The old addage of "this wedge has teeth to make it bite on any shot" comes to mind every time I grab it. I feel like around the green it's now a secret weapon I have, as my short game was always so-so...no I feel like if I miss a green, I can pull this out and chip from short-side, far-side, any side and skip it up there close.Read full review
I have bought this same wedge before but in a 62* (currently retired by another great wedge, Scratch 8620). It was at full price ($120 + sales tax) and it has been great for a lot of different shots. Since I needed a new sand wedge, I got this 54* new at $70; you cannot beat a deal like that for a still-popular wedge on the PGA Tour. As I expected, it has been great! The soft carbon feel can only come from a premium forging, along with a good weighted head and classic Dynamic Gold shaft to balance it perfectly. And going from 56* to 54* has increased my distance by 10 yd to a 100-110 yardage, which evened out my wedge yardage gaps nicely. With the extra bounce and C-grind, it is great from the bunkers and around the green with wonderful touch and control; while the 62* was good, the bounce was much lower than in the 54* and did not fit me well after a while. Working the ball high, low, left and right, and controlling distance is what shines when using this wedge for me. Considering Roger Cleveland designs wedges for Callaway now, I am not surprised that they have a winner with this club!Read full review
Callaway makes high quality golf clubs and this wedge is one of the best on the market.

Purchased Callaway X Forged Wedges in 48, 52 & 56 lofts to go with my Hogan forged irons. The 52 & 56 are C Grind with MD grooves. Really great looking clubs and they setup very nicely. Without a doubt, the easiest to hit and most accurate wedges I've ever used. They also generate tremendous spin. Overall, VERY satisfied with them. Nice work Mr. Cleveland.
Tried one at a Callaway DEMO DAY in Portland, OR and really liked the spin with the Mack Daddy grooves. You can actually spin range balls with this club. I have used it in 4 rounds and it has performed well. The only thing you need to prepare for is it stops shorter than you might expect and it peels cover off the ball.
