This is the last and most powerful 17" laptop Apple ever made. It has all of the advantages of a desktop machine and a laptop. I can hook up two 33" monitors while editing video in Final Cut or Avid Media Composer, without any strain on the system. Fast and powerful. With 16 GBs of memory, 10K rpm HD + 10 TB of external storage, It can handle anything - plus I can carry the whole setup anywhere, with my Sony 3-D video camera; I'm ready for any video opportunity. The newer Apple laptops are getting whimpier and smaller every year, while the iPads are getting bigger - I think they're going to meld into one lousy product; basically a glorified phone - so get a usable laptop while you can, before they disappear.

Overall this is a very nice laptop. My primary use is software development and I'm very satisfied with the machine. One upgrade that it needs is memory and hard disk. I upgraded my memory to max 1GB supported and replaced the HDD with and SSD which makes this a beast, light and fast! The 17 inch is just right for my needs so size is not an issue for me. I prefer having more real estate on the display as I rarely use an external monitor.
It is a shame Apple no longer makes a 17 inch Macbook pro. I have been using an 11" air book for just about everything. The difference in the screen size is amazing. Not an easy computer to travel with but it once there the screen size makes it worth the trouble. I also like the ability to upgrade/replace the drive and the memory something not easily done in the new MacBooks.
I love this computer! I use it for classes in college, photoshop side projects, playing some less-demanding games, and just browsing the web. The screen real estate is bigger in person. I love everything about it! There are a few things to consider when buying this laptop. One, it has very small font. I like it and it suits me well, but others may find it hard to read. Two, I recently had a problem with the headphone jack displaying a red LED light which lets the user know that there is something wrong with the headphone port. This means I can't listen to anything through my speakers once the headphones are removed. I fixed this by putting a cut in half Q-Tip in the input and wiggled it around until it fixed. I normally hate using the jam it in method, but that is what it said on multiple reputable websites. It worked so I guess they were right. Three, I think the laptop could use a better graphics card or at least allow you to upgrade it yourself. This would allow a gamer such as myself to not have to play on low settings to get decent FPS on a game like DOTA. Overall, this is a great laptop and I would recommend to anyone. I get complements on it all the time!Read full review
The owner of this took extra special care of it with plastic protectors all around. Upgraded hard drive and true SSD. This is one of the best machines that Apple ever built. It is my second one. The first one still runs fine but I wanted a backup and this is a screamer.
