CRCODILE (2000) is not a remake of the 1979 movie of the same name, but a completely different movie. This version is about a group of college kids on vacation who stumble upon a nest of eggs, which unknown to them, turns out to belong to a huge crocodile. This movie is far superior to the other crocodile in many ways. First -(obviously) the special effects are much better,second-the movie is brighter with better cinematography and third- it has a better ending than the first movie. One of the things I disliked most about the first movie was that it was dark, even the daytime scenes were dark. Most of the scenes in the 2000 version take place during the day,in bright sunshine , including the ending. The first movie was about an older doctor whose wife & child were killed while on vacation by a large (hard to see) crocodile. The newer version (smartly) makes it a younger , good-looking, hipper cast of college students on a care-free spring break vacation. Granted, the usual cliches are there (drinking, partying), but what sets it apart is good, solid acting by the cast of twenty-somethings. Special-effects have, indeed come a long way in the 21 years since the first crocodile, but another reason I liked this movie better was it's positive, up-lifting ending. It wasn't the the typical "last woman standing" ending ending that almost all sci-fi/horror movies seem to have to have. It also has a slight "leave nature alone & live-and-let-live" message at the end as well. Overall,I think "CROCODILE"(2000) is an exciting, well-written, well-acted movie with good characters that anyone (especially Horror fans), will love.Read full review
