Willie Dixon's "I Am The Blues", is a must have for those into blues/rock. Fist released in the early 70's. It's a CD of the most famous songs covered by the likes of: The Doors, Zep, Stones, Cream & others. I saw a live show with Willie Dixon in a small club in NYC over 25 years ago and it was magic time. Backed by a great band with many from the SNL house band did a great set. Willie Dixon would pass on a few years later, But this masterpiece now lives on & many feel his orignal tracks are the best. But I feel the covers are part of the history of rock which haven't matched. Zep did on the first album "You Shock Me" & "I Can't Quit Yoy Baby" enuff said. The Doors would cover "Back Door Man" on the debut LP. The Stones would cover "Little Red Rooster" early. Johnny Rivers & his top 10 "Seventh Son" during the mid 60's & Cream's "spoonful" are just some of the over 2000 songs with the copyright by Willie Dixon. Willie Dixon's songs are typically heard by other artists; from Howling Wolf to Led Zepplin. This set shows that the great songwriter, can belt them out with the best of them. The fact that he's lived these songs makes this recording even more convincing. The band also receives kudos for providing just the right amount of grease and grind to these classics.
