I had no Idea CW McCall had done so many songs. I guess you could call his style a country with a bit of what is now known as rap. Or just story telling set to music. This brings back the good old times when I was but a child and the worries were few. I remember watching the old Kern's bread commercials and listening to CW croon about how good it was. I remember there were four commercials based off of the song "Old Home Filler Up and Keep on a trucking Cafe". Each one adding to the soap opera like story line. The one thing I remember most is the song "Convoy". CB's literally jumped off he shelves after this song came out. This song had a great effect on history and the trucking industry. Everyone wanted to be a trucker. If you wan to listen to some real good Americana...this is it. Remember Burt Reynolds and "Smokey and the Bandit": well it all stared right here. The songs about blowing through speed traps and thumbing your nose at the law. The last two songs will stop and make you think. "Roses for Mama" should be played ever Mother's Day. If you don't shed at least one tear listening to it you are just inhuman. The last song "Aurora Borealis" will send a chill down your spine if you close your eyes and let the word form pictures in your mind. Overall I liked this album, more for the trip down memory lane than anything.Read full review
I guess I'm a dyed in the wool "Crispy Critter". Always have loved anything C.W. McCall recorded. I just wish more of his music was re-recorded over to CD's. Every time I play this CD I get something else out of a song, sometimes I even have to chuckle and the stress of the day seems to fade. I can even repeat the entire "Convoy" by heart. I just added my grandchildren on as fans. When we are in the car, they ask me to play the Greatest hits by C.W. McCall. The Rock and Roll kids were snookered in and didn't even realize they were enjoying music from Grandma's time.
I bought 2 because my sister wanted me to paw thru the bargain bins at truckstops to find certain songs by CW McCall. But I said to myself, save time. Search ebay, and lo and behold, every title she asked for was on one album. So I go what the hey, One for me too. And guess what, me not being a music freak, I truly enjoyed the album. It's really cool opening with Convoy and then continuing on with well connected songs. The entirety of the album is well planned and almost a ballad AND a statement.
I purchased this CD for my homebound handicapped brother. His dream if he had been normal was to be a trucker like his nephew that he idolizes. This CD has allowed him to be an armchair trucker! The songs are great, the words are clear and he can sing along without any problems. This is one of those CD's that you can just sit back and truly enjoy because it is filled with classic songs with great story lines.
Had this same CD before & loane someone & never got it back! Liked it then like it now!
