This is an older lens from the Canon product line, but is very good for what I needed. I use it primarily for portraits on a compact sensor body camera. It gives me an effective focal length of 45-145. Most all of my shooting with this lens is outside, or under studio lighting, so the fact that it's a slow lens doesn't effect me as much. If I was an 'available light' shooter this could be more of a problem It's not as sharp as "L" series lenses, or even some of the better mid-range canon lenses, but for what it is, it's great. It was designed as a kit lens and it shows. There is some distortion at both ends of the zoom range, most visible when shooting buildings and brick walls, things get a bit soft at wide open, and it's not the best lens I've ever used when it comes to dealing with light flairs. That's the bad part. The good part, it's great for what I use it for. I've got a very workable range, everything from full body to close framed head shots. It's very light weight, focuses quickly enough that it's never been a problem. For the use I put it to however, it's my favorite one. I wouldn't be happy with it as my primary lens, especially on a compact sensor body. The zoom length isn't a good all-around lens, it's slow and image quality, while more than acceptable for general use, isn't the best. On a full sized sensor the zoom range is more general purpose, but I'd have a hard time feeling good about a 50 dollar lens on a 2000+ dollar body. I work with the lenses limitations and love it. If it were my only lens, probably not so much.Read full review
I bought this lens for an older Canon DSLR and it works fine. I do not know if it fits newer models. It does not fit Canon film camera bodies.
Verified purchase: Yes | Condition: Pre-owned
The lens was great. was described very well and works great. very happy. The lens has a sharp quality at f4 and f5.6 it responds very well to quick action and low light. I have used it in gyms for basketball pictures and it gives me the capability to view cross court and up close with a single lens.
Quiet, Smooth Operation, Really a fine Optical Device, at an Unbelievable Price, what you've come to expect from Canon. Ease of Changing Lens on the Run (Literally) Lock Tight Install, Just line up the Red Dots and Turn. I bought it because of the quality of the Other Canon Lens I had and this one is even better ! You cannot go wrong with this Lens. Up Close or Far Out, this is one fine zoom Lens, lightweight enough to fit in your pockets.
Great lens, at a great price. Works very well as a "all around lens" for Canon EOS 1N and A2E. Sharp, quick focus, light weight, easy to use lens.
