Here's the thing...everyone loves Cleveland wedges right? Well if you realized who designed these wedges you'd love them too....that's right Roger Cleveland. These wedges are comparable to the Cleveland wedges and quite a bit less expensive. In some ways they are improved over the Clevelands. They may not have as deep of grooves as the Vokey Spin Milled. But if you can't get a ball to hop-stop or just plain stick with these wedges....it isn't the club. Very easy to hit...they spin the ball very well, workable, forgiving. You can't go wrong with these wedges, and for what you can get them used on eBay....it's a drop in the bucket!
This is a sweet design of wedge and it is used by many tour professionals. The bottom is relatively flat, making it easy to get a clean shot even in the tall stuff. It works well on short bunker shots and I am finding that it chips well also. I watched a pro hit it like a putt off the sole from the first cut of fringe with great success, but I haven't tried that yet. All in all, a really nice club to have in your bag when you find yourself not quite on the green. If you can't hit this wedge, the club isn't the problem.
I have to be honest and go 4/5 because to my surprise these clubs have very good accuracy around the green. I use my 58 degree around the green for 75 yard approach shots. The contact is solid and feels really nice. If I can point out the negatives, it would be in the size of the club face; smaller face than normal or regular sized clubs which means a smaller sweet spot but If you have played long enough a good swing will make it happen. I use the Callaway forged wedges for chips, pitch shots and 75 yards into the green. I have a 54 and 58 degree and I'm very happy with them both.
About Intelligent Design Series Wedges What is The Intelligent Design Series Wedge Treatment? The Intelligent Design Series Wedge starts life as a lightly used wedge. The first step in the finishing process is to strip the heads of the old chrome. Then, "U" (also know as “Square” or "box") grooves are cut into the face of the wedge. These grooves are cut precisely to the full USGA legal depth and width. It's important to note that many Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) do not cut grooves to the full legal depth at the factory. This is one example of how Intelligent Design Series Wedges are superior to the wedges available in the typical golf shops. After the grooves are completed, we then drill (port) 6 holes in the back of the club muscle, raising the center of gravity. This moves the sweet spot to the center of the club, just where it should be, giving your ball a lower more penetrating flight with a piercing trajectory and adding more control. Then, the head is polished and, any small dings or dents are removed. The next step in the process is the application of a layer of copper. The copper layer is applied beneath the chrome for added weight and, since copper is a softer material than chrome, to produce a slightly softer feel to the club. Then, the new chrome is applied and the club head is buffed to our proprietary Tour Satin Finish. Finally, the face of the club is sand blasted to provide texture and additional "bite". Intelligent Design Series Wedge Treatment Advantages Intelligent Design Series wedges are superior to anything on the market. Our Tour Satin Chrome finish is not susceptible to the bubbling, cracking, chipping, and peeling found with typical nickel chrome. These wedges are more durable than factory wedges while providing a softer feel. Intelligent Design Series Tour Satin Chrome wedges combine the best features of chrome, raw, oil-can, and gun metal finished wedges. Intelligent Design Series Tour Satin Chrome wedges provide reduced glare while providing a softer feel and the outstanding durability of chrome. This Satin Chrome Finish will not rust until the chrome wears off. Since The Intelligent Design Series Tour Satin Chrome is more durable than the cheaper nickel chrome, you can look forward to a long, long life without rust. Perhaps most importantly, Intelligent Design Series Tour Satin Chrome Wedges produce significantly more spin than standard factory wedges, especially from the rough. Many OEM clubs have "V" grooves which are cast into the face of the wedge. Intelligent Design Series wedges have "U" grooves that are cut to the full USGA legal depth and width. Q: What is Black Oxide? A: Black Oxide is a natural reaction of the metal with the Black Oxide Bath. This finish can vary from shiny parts with a tight smooth and/or hardened surface to matte part with a porous non-hardened surface. An oil post-treatment will help give a shiny finish. A wax or rust inhibitor will make the finish matte. Black Oxide adds about 5 to 10 millionths of an inch to the dimension of a part. It also penetrates to an approximate depth of 5 to 10 millionths of an inch.As far as the durability on all our Black Oxide finishes, they are all equally the same and in time they will wear. Many factors are involved such as how well you play, do you take a large divots or small divots, if the course is heavily fertilized, and if the person wipes down the clubs after use and applies oil on the irons. This club just feels good. Make a decent swing and the results are excellent. Good launch angle, great feel, high spin and accurate. What more could anyone want in a wedge. I was looking for a quality forged wedge to take my short (scoring) game to the next level. I believe this wedge has done that.
