I have been using CAD mics in my studio for quite a while. When I was recently hired to do some live sound work I was looking for a 'kit' of drum mics. There were several that I tried and evaluated: Shure, Audix, and CAD. I had used some other cheaper ones when asked to mix on some house-provided audio system... stuff like the cheaper Nady stuff, and OSP kits. In the end CAD proved to be the clear cut winner, but I definitely have to say, you need to get a "Premium" kit... which includes the KBM412, not the "Pro" which uses the KM212 kick drum mics. There is a big difference in the TSM411 and TM211 for snare and tom. Go Premium, not Pro! Now, specifically referencing the KBM412. This mic kicks! I bought a single one to add to the kit so that I have one for kick drum, and another for the lowest floor tom. In a kick, I need just a bid of mid-eq scoop, nothing much different than most other mics. The difference to me is the increased clarity in the attack combined with the ability to handle high spl lows. For the rock shows I am doing right now, I prefer this mic to the AKG D112 or the Shure Beta 52 (I own both). Last week was the first week that I used the 'extra' KBM412 on low floor tom, and it produced some of the best thunderous sound I have got out of the kit I was mixing. I do like the rubber sleeve vibration isolating microphone mounts. For experimentation, I did throw this mic on a bass cabinet to do some recording and was very pleased with the results. I wouldn't rank it as my favorite for this particular application but it does work well. I think it is a much better when used for percussion. The best part for a drummer or sound guy on a budget, you can get this mic for a reasonable price. I have heard of some problems with CAD's cheaper mics, but I have had no problems with these.Read full review
It can be a bit wooly, but as a bass can or floor tom Mic, it's super reliable. Not bad on kick, but not my fave.

It's better used for recording than for live sound, as it will feedback at high volumes. It delivers a good clean kick sound, just don't expect it to have that scooped eq sound of an EV RE20 or Shure bass drum mic.

I hooked it up to my system, and I couldn't be happier with the sound quality. Its awesome to have my bass drum sound like breaking the sound barrier with a sonic Double Boom.

What I love about it is the Bass response and quality of sound. I use it on an upright bass and the reproduction is unbelievable even picking up frequencys We can't hear it adds to the blend. Dislike. I bought it to attach to my bass with a clamp on the bridge, I've used others set up this way. This one is too big and too heavy and reduces my mobility. I have to hold the bass to the stand all the time but it sure sounds good.
