Fields of the Fatherless has a great message - a challenging message, but I felt like reading the entire book was a waste of time (however, it was a short time as the book is double-spaced and only about 133 pages long). The message of the book could have been addressed, and exhausted, in a few paragraphs. The content was mostly fluff, but I did enjoy the enclosed letters from individuals in between the chapters. I do appreciate the author's passion and mission in life and I have to say that the message of the book did have a lasting impact on my life - so, in that sense, I guess it was worth it. Instead of buying the book, I would recommend trying to find an archive of Tom Davis' radio interviews on some Christian radio website. He also has a blog. Anyway, the message of the book is basically, "Don't neglect to be the hands and feet of Jesus to a hurting world." I still plan to read his Red Letters book, but if I find that to also contain a great message that is pointlessly drawn-out into needless pages of fluff, I will probably just avoid his books from here on out and, instead, try to catch his radio interviews when I can. His interviews are definitely worth listening to.Read full review
This book is a good reminder of what we can do for orphans everywhere as well as the people around us.
