Please read the whole review before making a judgement call. this review is particular about the actuall speed bead mount for the 870, not the fast fire 3. the fast fire 3 gets a 5 of 5 for the price and reliability. the speed mount does not, #1 its not easy to install. #2 its very flimsy. #3 after installing it, the recoil will actually bend it, you will notice your dot moving after firing a heavy load, its not the red dot, its actually the mount bending in between the stock #4 with a bone stock 870...i could not sight it in. the kit comes with 2 different size shims to raise the sight up... no matter how how you raise it, you still have to max out your elevation adjustment just to get the red above the bb on the end of your barrel....if you are lucky enough to screw around with it and get the red dot above the bb, you will still be shooting high and cannot adjust the dot high enough. #5 the wedge screw adjustment on the mount itself it basically useless, the directions plainly tell you to tighten to lower elevation of the mount and to loosen it to raise elevation of the mount. after calling burris...you have to have the wedge screw tightened all the way down to the stock or the recoil will throw the sight off....180 degrees out from what the directions say. #6 with both shims isntalled i still couldnt get enough elevation to sight it in so i called burris....all they could do is recommend me to some company that makes a shim kit with bigger shims....making their product useless for me. with that said, customer service was still good so im not yamming them. #7 the sight installs between the stock and the receiver of a shot gun. the whole purpose is to make the red dot level with your bb and basically force you to mount your cheek to the gun every time to use the scope. its a great tool...but unfortunately without the shimkit you cant make it work on an 870 because the dot will not adjust high enough. once you shim the the sight up and its above the the receiver , there is no longer a point in having the speed bead. you might as well drill and tap the receiver and mount it on top of the gun, because with shims stacked up under , you are already just as high. so my suggestion is save your money,. buy the burris fast fire 3 and get your shotgun drill and tapped for either a picatinny/weaver rail....or if you by the marlin 336 mount from burris "even though its made for a marlin lever gun" it will fit perfectly on top of an 870 and will actually mount it lower to the gun than a picatinny will. i hope this review helps some peopleRead full review
