The cartridges are a necessary evil, and I suppose they are more economical to use than inkjets. I have learned that they are set to register as empty once the machine has made a set number of prints with them, no matter how much toner may be left inside, and that infuriates me. I found a video on you tube that shows how to reset the counter so I do that over and over until the print quality goes down. We mostly print invoices and other B&W so there is always a lot of toner left in the color cartridges when the counter says they are empty. Shake the cartridge and look at the window to see how much toner is left when it's "empty". As much as these things cost, knowing that Brother is screwing you on the usage should tick you off too.
I decided to stay with an OEM brother toner. The remanufactured toners are too risky to use. The last generic I used leaked magenta toner all over my printer belt.
