I was having a difficult time finding a new printer that did what my old printer did. It has color capability but I ususally only use it for black and white. It doesn't use a lot of ink and the ink is affordable. It is simple, I can use a cord to connect to my computer and don't have to use WIFI. It also scans and copies (and Faxes, though I don't use it for that). It will also print on legal pages and has a paper feed. I keep hearing about all the problems people have when they buy new printers and what a hassle they are, so I am happy to keep using the same model and avoid the headaches.

This sale was for a replacement tray for my printer that had broken. The tray is working very well now though the quality of the hinged cover is very flimsy and is what broke originally. Since I had a coupon, the price was right and it saved me buying a new printer. We'll see how long it lasts.

I needed to replace a five year old Brother All-In-One Inkjet when one of the colors stop printing making it only good for black and white. I had always been pleased with the printer I had. Features like its individual color cartridges, photo capability, high resolution and how easy the interface software was to use. I started my search by looking for another Brother with similar features and found this model. This model has increased print resolution, faster speed, an improved cartridge design, higher capacity for the document feeder, improvements to the paper tray and maintains the individual color cartridges so you are never forced to throw a portion of your ink away. Over the past five years Brother has definitely continued to improve upon what was already a very good printer and has me unlikely to look at any other brand again. I have used HP and Cannon printers in the past but prefer my Brother MFC-J430W All In One. The savings on the printer will pay for at least two years worth of my ink supply. This is an excellent printer and I got it for under $100.00 If you have never used a Brother Printer I believe you will be very pleased if you give one a try.Read full review
I love the wireless feature, especially as I use a laptop and get tired of all the USB/Power/etc cords in the way. Mine was bought second-hand, so I didn't get an installation disc, which might have been useful if there was additional software on there, but I was able to install it through my wireless network. I inherently bought this to be able to scan and file my documents digitally (to keep from having LOADS of paperwork all over the place - kind of like my own neatdesk), so the scanner function is kind of slow for me. The quality of the scan is GREAT, though. And it does have a document feeder, which helps with multiple pages. The printing on regular paper is GREAT, except the printer doesn't automatically know to use just black ink for document printing. My cyan was low the other day, but my black was full and it wouldn't print a word document without either replacing the cyan, or going through the printer settings and changing it to print grayscale only. So that's a little tedious for those that switch back and forth between color and grayscale prints. Also, both the printer screen and my laptop keep "notifying" me that my ink is low, which is a little irritating with how OFTEN it keeps popping up. You can't print without clearing the printer screen message about the low ink. Ink cartridges are small... they should have bigger options. My used one came with all the ink depleted but they gave me replacement cartridges, so I'm not sure how long each cartridge normally lasts. The printing of pictures is not that great. I had a few pictures printed and the color looks washed out. I tried this on photo paper, but not on regular paper, so picture prints on regular paper might be better. The top half that opens to reveal the scanner is really flimsy and feels like it might break/fall off, but I just try to be careful about it. The whole thing is kind of heavy-ish, but I like that it seems mostly durable (except the top feeder part). The paper tray fits entirely inside the printer, which I like because I don't like things sticking out of it, but that feature makes it to where you can't hold but maybe an inch-tall stack of paper. That's ok - I don't do much printing, anyway. The top of the paper feeder has an expanding flyway guard to keep the printed sheets from flying off the edge of the printer. In my experience with Brother COPIERS, they're GREAT all around and toner was cheap. That's why I decided to give a Brother all-in-one printer a shot, and I'd say that for the amount I got it for, it was a pretty good deal. I had a Canon Pixma before this one, which I loved! And this Brother one is high up on my "like" list, just under the Canon.Read full review
This is a replacement for my old brothers MFC-410w which lasted bout 4 years in my home business. I believe Brothers have the best value in small printers and are very well built. Most of my printing is black and white but the color is very good also. The cost per print is the lowest I have found . I do not have a phone line into my house so do not use the Fax feature ,but to use the scan a lot . The complete unit is easy to use and set up on my Mac is very easy. y son is a teacher and has also used the Brothers line of printers for many years .
