Just got the complete DVD collection of Slings & Arrows partly, I confess, because I'm a big Due South fan but also because of the excellent reviews I've seen from many quarters. What a gem. As alluded to by other reviewers, the quality of writing, acting and timing by the ensemble cast (but especially Stephen Ouimette as Oliver) is superb. I have just watched the first two episodes at one sitting, which is something of an attention span record for me. Why this was never picked up by BBC, ITV or Channels 4 or 5 here in the UK is beyond me. Canada produces some very high quality TV programmes which seem always to pass under the radar of TV execs here. I'd recommend this series unreservedly to anyone who despairs of the usual junk TV diet and respects well written dark comedy drama impeccably delivered. Buy, watch, enjoy.Read full review
Friends recommended this to me, so I decided to try it. I'm a bit over halfway through, and I'm amazed at how much story these folks pack into six hour-long episodes: there's almost as much story in a single season here as there is in a single season of a Whedon series. The first season is mostly funny, with some incredibly apt barbs at arts organizations, non-profit boards and the ambitions of some people on them (I've been on the inside, and I was amazed at how accurate this is!). The second season, around staging The Scottish Tragedy, is much darker: there's still a lot of humor, but it's the kind that makes me wince while I'm laughing. I don't want to watch more than one episode at a time: each one is a gem deserving contemplation and thought.
Witty, black comedy. The opening season's song about Hamlet, sung in the bar, is hilarious. I got the first episode on Netflix and, within the 10 minutes, thought, "This is GOOD!" And wanted to own it and share it with friends. So I bought it. Anyone who has ever loved anything/anyone will resonate with this show. Especially if they blew it. Of course, it also helps to love/hate the theater or to have ever wanted to be an actor. And maybe to be just a little bit bent. All right, a lot bent. Well written, well acted. Occassionaly, brilliantly acted.
Finally...an program without the usual drivel, laugh track, nonsense. Higher brow entertainment that probably most people can really enjoy. This is a keeper that I will watch over again.

Best series to come out of Canada. Most of the drama at the theater happens off the stage, and this show captures the onstage and offstage conflicts, snark and sass. If you've ever had experience of working on stage productions, this show will ring true. If you haven't, it's still a good time.
