If you're a Queen or Brian May fan, the Red Special is important to you as it was and is responsible for "that" guitar sound in the music you love. The story of its' home made construction is not only interesting but adds much to the background of the band and their early days. I was one of the first to buy the Burns Red Special replica, so to learn more about how the guitar was originally designed and built from odds and ends was fascinating. The section on Brian's gig atop Buckingham Palace was worth the cost of the book by itself - and yes, the great ones get nervous just like us! I read and re-read the book several times - it's like having a conversation with Brian. I'm glad he allowed the Old Lady to be taken apart and put back together - interesting for us guitarheads, and it also made me go back and start playing Queen numbers again - great music!!!Read full review
For a die-hard Brian May fan, this book is the Holy Grail of the Red Special. Everything you ever wanted to know about that unique instrument is between these pages - even X-Rays! - along with lovingly-delivered commentary by May himself on the two-year-long construction of the guitar with his father. The book leans toward the "tecchie" side of things - how could it not? - but there's enough information to keep even the casual Brian May or Queen fan entertained and enlightened. There's never been a book like it.
Very detailed in the description of the development of the most famous guitar in rock history.
